Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Pioneers Blank Saint Anselm, 3-0

Rachael DeLong led the victory charge with a goal and an assist against the Hawks.

SHELTON, Conn. — Anna Klein drilled in the game-winning goal for the Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team on Saturday. After tying in game one on Friday, the co-captain ignited the 3-0 shutout over the Hawks with help from Alexa Ocel to take the series win.

The Pioneers improved to 5-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in NEWHA, while SAC dropped to 2-7-1 and 1-2-1. Sacred Heart jumped to second in the league with the Hawks at fourth.

Klein's goal came in the second period off a powerplay, followed by Rachael DeLong's first goal of the season five minutes later during another short-handed opportunity. Klein leads the team with five goals this season.

Halfway through the final period, Kennedy Spiering recorded the final goal of the night with help from DeLong.

The Red & White stifled the Hawks as goaltender Frankie Sanchez caught 15 shots, while the defense stopped 14.

SHU is on the road on Nov. 19-20 for a two-game stint at Saint Michael's, with puck drops at 7 p.m. and 4 p.m.
