Pioneers Knotted 1-1 in OT Against Saint Anselm

Cannady Taleghani forced OT in the third period for her first goal of the season.

SHELTON, Conn. — In the first contest of a two-game home series, the Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team tied NEWHA conference opponent Saint Anselm, 1-1, on Friday.

Eight and a half minutes into the first period the Hawks took a 1-0 lead.

Cannady Taleghani evened the score 11 minutes into the final period off the stick of co-captain Anna Klein. The senior's first goal of the season came off a delayed decision by the referees. The forward also led the team in shots with six.

SAC outshot the Pioneers, 47-38, but the home team blocked 12 as compared to the visitors eight as Frankie Sanchez stopped 26 in the net.

The Red and White rematch the Hawks at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
