WEST POINT, N.Y.- The Sacred Heart University Men's Ice Hockey team claimed its sixth shutout victory of the year as the Pioneers defeated Army West Point by a final score of 3-0. SHU looks for the weekend sweep tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.

First Period

• Both sides each tallied nine shots on goal in the period.
• Neither side could slip a goal passed the goaltenders keeping the game scoreless heading into the second period.
• Both sides went 0-1 on the power-play in the period.
• Each team recorded eight faceoff wins in the period.

Second Period

• The Pioneers outshot the Black Knights in the second period 6-3.
• Just 5:21 into the period junior Marc Johnstone cashed in his sixth goal of the season off a pair of assists by seniors Austin McIlmurray and Jason Cotton to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead and to score the opening goal of the period.
• Neither side had a power-play opportunity in the period.
• The Pioneers tallied 10 face-off wins in the period while Army was held to just seven.

Third Period

• In the third period, the Pioneers continued the aggressive offensive attack as SHU outshot Army 9-6 in the period.
• Neither side was able to find the back of the net in the period until the closing minutes when junior Alex Bates nailed his second goal of the year off an assist by sophomore Austin Magera 17:56 into the period to lock the win for the Pioneers.
• But the icing on the cake came from senior Jason Cotton as he nailed his 20^th goal of the year which ties him for fourth all-time at SHU in single season goals as he found the empty net 19:56 in to seal the 3-0 shutout of Army.

• Sophomore goalie Josh Benson recorded his fifth shutout victory of the year tallying 18 saves on 18 shots faced to improve to 19-10-2 overall on the year.
• Senior Jason Cotton tallied a two point night with a goal and assist for two points.
• SHU outshot Army 24-18.
• SHU improves to 20-10-2 overall on the year and 17-8-1 overall in Atlantic Hockey play.
