Softball Sweeps Robert Morris to Clinch Playoff Spot in NEC Tournament

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa.- The Sacred Heart University Softball team swept Northeast Conference rival Robert Morris this afternoon taking the first game 4-1 and the second by a score of 5-1. The Pioneers will now advance to the Northeast Conference tournament where the opponent is still to be determined. The Northeast Conference tournament begins Thursday, May 9 with the time still to be determined. 

 

Game 1 

SHU 4, RMU 1

The Scoring

Top of the 2nd inning- First-year Brianna Santos would launch a homer to to left field scoring in graduate student Fallon Bevino to put the Pioneers ahead 2-0. 

Top of the 6th inning- Sophomore Kateyln Christian would rip a home run to left field to put the Pioneers ahead 3-0. 

Top of the 6th inning- After Bevino lined out to left field, first-year Amy Petrovich would also hit a homer to this time to centerfield to put the Pioneers ahead 4-0.

Bottom of the 6th inning- An RBI double by the Colonials would give the team the lone run of the game giving the Pioneers game one of the doubleheader by a final score fo 4-1. 

 

The Numbers

  • First-year Brianna Santos would lead the way at the plate for the Pioneers going 2-3 with a home run and two RBI. 
  • In the circle, senior Emily Orosco would put up an impressive showing going all seven innings giving up just one run on four hits and striking out 10 batters. She improves her record to 10-5 on the season.
  • The Pioneers as a team outhit the Colonials nine to four in the game as well.  

 

Game Two

The Scoring

Top of the 1st inning- The Pioneers would waste no time getting on the board as graduate student Fallon Bevino would rip an RBI double to right center scoring in senior Hailey Desroisers to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0. 

Top of the 1st inning- Then sophomore Kylee Harvey would knock in an single to right field with the bases loaded scoring in Bevino to put the Pioneers ahead 2-0. 

Top of the 1st inning- First-year Alyssa Gonzalez would rip a single to left field scoring in two runs to put the Pioneers ahead 4-0 after the first inning. 

Top of the 3rd inning- Harvey would deliver again this time with an RBI double to left center scoring in Brianna Santos to put the Pioneers ahead 5-0. 

Bottom of the 5th inning- An RBI single by Robert Morris would give the team the only run of the game to make the final score 5-1 in favor of the Pioneers. 

 

The Numbers

  • At the plate sophomore Kylee Harvey led the way for the Pioneers going 2-4 with a double and two RBI.
  • In the circle, senior Kristen McCann would pick up her 10th win of the season as she went all seven innings allowing just one run on four hits and striking out eight batters. 
  • Overall the Pioneers outhit the Colonials seven to four in the game.
