Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y.- The Sacred Heart University Softball team fell to Mount Saint Mary's this afternoon in the NEC Championships elimination game by a final score of 4-3. The Pioneers conclude the season with a 28-27 record on the year and an 11-5 record in conference play.
After SHU was able to even the score at 1-1 in the in the first inning, the Pioneers would head into the bottom of the fourth inning with the Pioneers trailing 4-1 before first-year Alyssa Gonzalez would fire off a homer to left field to tighten the Mount lead to 4-2. Then in the seventh inning the Pioneers would attempt a late two out rally as junior Katelyn Christian would knock in an RBI single to cut the Mount lead to 4-3 but were unable to even the score resulting in the loss.
The Scoring
Top of the 1st inning- The Mount would jump out to an early lead with an RBI double down the right field line to take a 1-0 lead.
Bottom of the 1st inning- The Pioneers would even the score as a first-year Amy Petrovich would reach back to first on a rundown safely which scored in senior Stephanie Mangiameli to even the score at 1-1.
Top of the 2nd inning- A solo home run and an RBI single by Mount Saint Mary's would put them ahead 3-1 heading into the bottom of the second inning.
Top of the 3rd inning- Mount Saint Mary's would be able to score off an RBI single to make the score 4-1.
Bottom of the 4th inning- First-year Alyssa Gonzalez would launch a homer to left field to tighten the Mount lead to 4-2.
Bottom of the 7th inning- Junior Katelyn Christian would knock in an RBI single to left field scoring in Petrovich to make the final score 4-3 in favor of Mount Saint Mary's.
The Numbers
- In the hit column, SHU would outhit the Mountaineers by a tally of 11 to nine in the game.
- At the plate the Pioneers were led by first-year Amy Petrovich going 3-4 with a double.
- In the circle senior Kristen McCann would tally the loss going 4.0 innings allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out three batters. Her record dropped to 9-12 on the year.
