Box Score 2 FAIRFIELD, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University Softball team dropped a pair of games to Manhattan this afternoon to conclude the teams homestand. The Pioneers fell in the first game 3-2 and 7-1 in the second. SHU returns to action on Thursday, Apr. 25 when the Pioneers will travel to face Fairfield. First-pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
Game One
SHU 2, Manhattan 3
The Scoring
Bottom of the 1st inning- Graduate student Fallon Bevino would rip a single through the left side scoring in senior Hailey Desrosiers to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0.
Bottom of the 2nd inning- Desrosiers would then launch an RBI triple to left field scoring in Jennie Boisvert to put the Pioneers ahead 2-0.
Top of the 3rd inning- Lauren Pitney would knock in a three-run homer to give the Jaspers the 3-2 lead and the victory.
The Numbers
- At the plate, senior Hailey Desrosiers would lead the way for the Pioneers going 2-3 with a triple and an RBI.
- The Jaspers would outhit the Pioneers seven to four in the game.
- In the circle, senior Emily Orosco would tally the loss going all seven innings allowing just three runs on seven hits and striking out ten.
Game Two
SHU 1, Manhattan 7 F/6 (called due to darkness)
The Scoring
Top of the 1st inning- Three RBI singles by the Jaspers would tally up three runs in the inning to give Manhattan an early 3-0 lead.
Top of the 2nd inning- A single by Annie Moore would score in one to give the Jaspers a 4-0 lead.
Top of the 2nd inning- A three run double by Daniela Choirazzi would put Manhattan ahead 7-0.
Bottom of the 2nd inning- The Pioneers lone run would come off the bat of Brianna Santos as she would knock in an RBI single to the shortstop to make the final score 7-1.
The Numbers
- The Pioneers would be outhit in the game 10 to two in the game.
- First-year Brianna Santos would lead the way for the Pioneers going 1-2 with an RBI.
- In the circle sophomore Colleen Walsh would have the best day on the mound going 3.2 innings allowing just one hit and striking out three.
