Box Score WEST POINT, N.Y.— The Sacred Heart University dropped its non-conference matchup at Army West Point, 12-3 on Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers (10-28) were unable to keep up with the Black Knights (27-19) offense as the home team outhit SHU 12-7 at Doubleday Field.
SHU opened the game with back-to-back doubles as co-captain PJ DeFilippo drove in freshman Isiah Daubon with double to left field. Army West Point responded with a RBI triple by Anthony Giachin to tie things up at 1-1.
The Black Knights used a four-run third and two-run fourth inning to take a 7-1 lead. The Pioneers got two runs back in the top of the eighth on a two-RBI double by Stephen Thibault to bring the score to 7-3. A five-run bottom of the eighth by Army West Point brought the final to 12-3.
Freshman Danny Glendon led the Pioneers with his second multi-hit game of the season. SHU also registered four doubles in the game. SHU used seven pitchers in the midweek matchup with southpaws Nick Rubino and Jackson Aldam recording shutout innings.
The Pioneers continue the busy week tomorrow with a matchup at Stony Brook.
