Box Score 2 FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart softball team took both games of the doubleheader against Siena College on Thursday at Pioneer Park. The Pioneers (28-18) downed the Saints (13-21) 4-1 to start the day and then battled back with a pair of runs in the fourth to take game two, 2-1.
Game One – SHU 4, Siena 1
The Scoring…
Bottom of the 1st inning… Fallon Bevino kicked off the scoring by lacing a single to center field to score Hailey Desrosiers. Lauren Delgadillo followed up with a hit of her own to center field scoring Bevino to bring the lead to 2-0.
Bottom of the 2nd inning… Stephanie Mangiameli came up with two runners on and lined a single to right field scoring Kira Ferraiolo for the 3-0 lead.
Bottom of the 4th inning… SHU took advantage of three wild pitches in the fourth with Dani Warnken scoring from third with two outs for the 4-0 cushion.
Top of the 7th inning… The Saints got one run in the seventh as Isabelle DeChiaro came home to score on an errant throw for the final 4-1.
The Numbers….
- Colleen Walsh pitched seven complete innings, allowing just one hit in the top of the seventh.
- SHU outhit Siena 6-1 in game one, with Desrosiers recording two hits from the leadoff spot.
Game Two – SHU 2, Siena 1
Top of the 1st inning… The Saints jumped out to the early lead on a Madysen Cossack double to right field.
Bottom of the 4th inning… Bevino leadoff the inning by roping the 2-2 offering over the center field. Later in the inning, Caroline Kruger singled to right to score Delgadillo from second base for the 2-1 lead.
The Numbers…
- Shyanne Fennell recorded the complete game, scattering six hits while striking out two.
- Bevino ripped her fifth home run of the season, giving her 19 RBI for the second straight season.
- Delgadillo and Desrosiers recorded four out of the Pioneers seven hits in game two.
Noteworthy…
- SHU improved to 10-3 at Pioneer Park on the year, the first 10-win season at home since 2011.
- Desrosiers finished with back-to-back two-hit games for a team-leading 14th multi-hit showing of the season.
- The rookie duo of Fennell and Walsh both logged their first career complete games in the doubleheader sweep.
