Field Hockey Falls to Columbia, 2-1

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey team closed its regular-season with a 2-1 road loss against Columbia Sunday afternoon. Colleen McAninley scored SHU's lone goal in the contest.

The Pioneers return to action on Friday, Nov. 2, when SHU travels to take on top-seeded Monmouth in the MAAC Tournament Semifinals at 2 p.m.

The Scoring

  • (23:01): Jennifer Trieschman slid a pass to Katherine Cavanaugh, who shot it past the keeper to give Columbia a 1-0 lead

  • (53:59): Danielle Buttinger beat a defender one-on-one and fired it into net to give the Lions a 2-0 lead

  • (64:38): Kayla Kruk sent in a low cross, where McAninley received it and scored to cut the deficit to 2-1

Noteworthy

  • McAninley's goal was her ninth of the season, which is tops on the team

  • McAninley has scored a goal in back-to-back games and in four of her last six games

  • McAninley's 21 points leads the team

  • Kruk's assist was her third of the season
