Box Score 2 NEW BRITAIN, CONN. (May 1, 2016)—The Sacred Heart softball team used three homeruns to split the season-ending doubleheader at Central Connecticut Sunday afternoon. After falling 5-0 in the first game, the Pioneer offense came alive in the season finale getting eight runs on 11 hits to down the Blue Devils 8-5.
Kelyn Fillmore (Simi Valley, Calif.) went 3-for-4 in game two (3-for-6 on the day) knocking in three runs, and scoring one on her fifth-inning home run. That was the third homer of game for SHU. Fallon Bevino (Milford, Conn.) sent a two-run shot over the opposite fence in the third, and rookie Chloe Weeks (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) sent one flying over the fence in left field for one run in the fourth.
Sacred Heart finishes the 2016 season with a 13-34-2 overall record, and 4-12 against Northeast Conference opponents.

Game 1:
How It Happened:
- The Pioneers got seven hits off CCSU starter Emily Sargent , but were unable to score as the sophomore worked her way out of situations with runners in scoring position five times
- The Blue Devils got on the board first in the second inning bringing Brittany McNulla around to score after she led off the inning with a single
- Three innings later, with two outs, Brittany Camara and Eileen Purcell hit back-to-back homers off SHU starter Jamie Carlson (Corona, Calif.)
- In the bottom of the sixth, CCSU got two more runs off Adrianna Mallory (Pine Bush, N.Y.), who came in to relieve the junior. With one out, the senior put two runners on with a single and a walk. Alexis Debrosse came home on Katie Schmidt's single up the middle making it 4-0. Two batters later, Schmidt scores the Blue Devils' final run of the game on Camara's single
Highlights:
- Hailey Desrosiers (Cypress, Calif.) went 2-for-4 in the lead off spot hitting doubles in her final two at bats
- Carlson racked up seven K's over five innings of work, but got the loss
For the Foes:
- Camara went 3-for-4 against SHU pitchers, just a triple shy of the cycle, scoring once and picking up two RBI
- Schmidt got two hits in three at bats, scoring one run and knocking one in
- Sargent improved to 11-10 with the win, giving up seven hits while striking out five through seven innings
Game 2:
How It Happened:
- The Pioneers wasted no time in game two as Desrosiers led off the game with a double to right-center. Andrea Sidor (West Vancouver, British Columbia) and Lauren Delgadillo (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) followed it up with back-to-back singles bringing the rookie shortstop home for a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Bevino singled through the right side to make it a 2-0 game, allowing Sidor to score
- CCSU evened the score in the bottom of the second. Debrosse led-off the inning with a homerun over the centerfield wall to cut SHU's lead to one run. Hannah Cooper worked SHU starter Emily Orosco (Camarillo, Calif.) for a walk, and moved to second on Schmidt's sacrifice bunt before scoring the tying run thanks to Kaitlin Paterson's double to the gap in left center field. Orosco got the next two batters out to end the inning and stop the damage
- With two outs in the top of the third, Delgadillo got a single through the left side. The momentum carried into Bevino's at bat as the RS-freshman sent a two-run homerun over the right field fence to put the Pioneers back in front, 4-2
- Mallory came in to pitch two scoreless innings in the third and fourth, only allowing the Blue Devils one hit through the two innings
- Weeks improved upon that lead as she led off the fourth inning with a solo shot down the left field line before Sargent, who came in to relieve Alex Casanas after three innings, retired the next three batters in order
- SHU put two more on the board in the fifth thanks to Fillmore's long ball making it a 7-3 game
- Mallory got into trouble in the bottom half of the inning as the Blue Devils got three runs off the senior before Carlson was called in to close the game. CCSU's first three batters of the inning reached on a single and a double before Evie Rentzel launched a homerun over the centerfield fence to make it 7-5
- Sacred Heart made Sargent pay in the top of the sixth as a lead off walk came around to score the day's final run
Highlights:
- Fillmore went 3-for-4 with two singles and a homerun
- Delgadillo was 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored
- Bevino, Weeks and Fillmore each homered for SHU
- Mallory picked up the first win of her senior campaign in the season finale, and Carlson recorded her first save
For the Foes:
- Debrosse and Rentzel took SHU pitchers deep in game two. Rentzel and Purcell both went 2-for-4 at the plate in the latter game, each scoring a run
