Box Score Fairfield, CT (April 6, 2016) – The Sacred Heart softball team lost to crosstown rival Fairfield University 2-0 on a cold afternoon at Pioneer Park.
Jamie Carlson (Corona, Calif.) had another strong outing for the Pioneers going five innings giving up one hit and tying her season high for strikeouts with twelve. Fairfield was able to get their first run across when Lauren Alicia walked with two outs, stole second, and then scored on an error.
Sacred Heart returns to action on Sunday when they travel to Maryland for a doubleheader with Mount St. Mary's for a noon and 2:00 p.m. start times.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers threatened in the first, third and fourth innings putting runners in scoring position, but were unable to push a run across the plate
- Fairfield put its first run on the board in the fifth inning as a SHU fielding error allowed Angelina McGuire to come around to score after reaching on a walk
- Emily Orosco took over in the circle in the sixth inning giving up hits to two of the first three batters she faced resulting in the Stags' second run
- The Pioneers stranded eight runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Starting pitcher Carlson racked up a season-high tying 12 strikeouts, giving up just one hit through five innings of work. The junior got the loss as she gave up an unearned run in the top of the fifth
- Kelyn Fillmore (Simi Valley, Calif.), Stephanie Appelberg (Monroe, Conn.) and Victoria D'Addario (Lincoln Park, N.J.) had a hit each for the Pioneers
FOR THE FOES:
- Alicia had a hit and scored a run for the Stags
- Senior Lauren Falkanger picked up her fifth win of the season coming in in relief
- Tori Reed and Gianna Kinhofer batted a run in each, both going 1-for-3 at the plate
