Box Score FAIRFIELD, CONN. (April 19, 2016)—The Sacred Heart softball team dropped a 4-2 decision to crosstown rival Fairfield University Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field falling to 11-26-1 on the season.
SHU returns to Pioneer Park Wednesday for a doubleheader against Yale beginning at 3:00 p.m.
The Basics:
Score: Fairfield 4 – SHU 2
Location: Alumni Field, Fairfield, Conn.
New Records: Sacred Heart 11-26-1; Fairfield 18-16
How It Happened:
- The Pioneers got on the board first in the top of the fourth inning. After Fallon Bevino (Milford, Conn.) reached on an error, she moved to second on Victoria D'Addario's (Lincoln Park, N.J.) sacrifice bunt. She was forced home as FU starter Madison Roberts walked a batter and put another on with a HBP. The one run was all SHU would get, however, as Roberts got Lauren Delgadillo (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) to swing at the third strike for out number three
- A sloppy bottom half of the inning for Sacred Heart led to four runs for the Stags. After a lead-off single, Courtney Hankins came around to score on a wild pitch to level the score at one run. A walk and two fielding errors came back to haunt SHU starter Kristen McCann (Phoenix, Ariz.) as all three eventually came around to score
- SHU picked up one more run in the fifth inning as D'Addario knocked in Hailey Desrosiers (Cypress, Calif.) who reached on a walk, but it wouldn't be enough to overcome Fairfield
Highlights:
- Desrosiers went 1-for-2 at the plate, reaching base in three times, and scoring one run
For the Foes:
- Hankins went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles against SHU pitching, and scored the team's only earned run
