TEANECK, N.J. – The Sacred Heart women's tennis team lost by the score of 5-2 to a Northeast Conference opponent for second day in a row, falling at Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday afternoon. Finishing the regular season 9-9 overall and 2-2 in the league, the Pioneers will now turn their attention to the 2016 NEC Championships hosted at the Mercer Country Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J. next weekend.

Katie DeRienzo will head into those Championships on a six match winning streak as she ends the regular season 17-6 overall and 15-2 in dual play, both of which are atop the NEC. She was tested for the second day in a row, but ultimately prevailed 7-5, 6-3 in her first singles match. Earlier in the day, she had her four-match winning streak with doubles partner Taylor Gurda snapped in a 1-6 defeat at the first position.

Mariah Wardius earned Sacred Heart's other point, improving to a perfect 4-0 as a Pioneer with a sweep of her sixth singles opponent. Waridus also was part of SHU's winning doubles team, pairing with Olivia Podsiebierski in her first career collegiate doubles match, a 6-1 decision at the third spot. The victory gave Podsibierski a 16^th doubles win, one behind DeRienzo for the most on the team.

That result gave Sacred Heart the opportunity to take the doubles point with the second flight match still going on, but Paige Olson and Claudia Ruiz came up just short in a 6-4 setback. 

That seemed to be a common theme, as the Pioneers lost four sets in singles play by that score. Podsibierksi dropped both sets of her third singles match by that score, while Olson fell 4-6 in the first set of second singles and Ruiz was beaten 3-6, 4-6 at the fifth position.
