FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred women's tennis won for the fourth time in a row and the fifth time in six matches, sweeping its second consecutive opponent in cross-town rival Fairfield on Monday afternoon at the Pioneer Tennis Courts. After taking two of the three doubles matches, SHU did not drop a set in singles play, as the Pioneers move to 9-7.

Katie DeRienzo, Olivia Podsiebierski and Lindsey Post lost just one game each in their respective first, third and fifth singles matches. DeRienzo and Post have both now won four consecutive matches, while Podsibierski extends her winning streak to three. 

Also extending winning streaks were Taylor Gurda and Mariah Wardius, Gurda won her fourth straight match, 6-3, 6-2, at position two, while Wardius improved to a perfect 3-0 as a Pioneer with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at the sixth spot.

Rounding out the SHU sweep was Paige Olson, who dropped just two games in her second singles match to become the fourth Pioneer to move over .500, as she is now 9-8 on the season.

The two doubles teams to win also extended multiple match winning streaks to three. DeRienzo and Gurda moved to 9-2 together and 8-1 in dual play by knocking off their first doubles opponents 6-2, while Olson and Post move over .500 to 6-5, including 5-1 at the second position, after a 6-1 triumph. 

Tomorrow's scheduled match against UMass at the Pioneer Tennis Courts has been postponed due to impending inclement weather and will not be made up. Sacred Heart will close out its regular season schedule this weekend with two crucial Northeast Conference matches, the first coming at preseason favorite Bryant on Saturday at 1 pm.
