Box Score 2 Emmitsburg, MD (April 10, 2016) – The Sacred Heart softball team lost a pair of conference games Sunday afternoon to Mount St. Mary's by scores of 8-7 and 7-4.
In game one, the Pioneers lost in heartbreaking fashion as Jamie Carlson (Corona, Calif.) gave up a walk-off three-run homerun to Rachel Heinze. It was a back and forth game which saw the Pioneers up for most of the game before the walk-off.
Game two didn't go Sacred Heart's way either as they lost 7-4 and defending NEC rookie and pitcher of the week Emily Orosco (Camarillo, Calif.) couldn't get past the second as she gave up six runs on four hits. Lindsay Heinze led the way for Mount St. Mary's with a homerun of her own and five RBI.
The Pioneers return to action Wednesday afternoon as they travel to Long Island for a doubleheader against Stony Brook. First pitch is set for 2:30 PM.

GAME 1: SACRED HEART vs. MOUNT ST. MARY'S
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers jumped out to an early lead as they put up two runs in the first and second inning
- Kelyn Fillmore (Simi Valley, Calif.) singled home Lauren Delgadillo (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) after she led off the game with a double
- After the Pioneers loaded the bases, Lindsay DeDomenico (Northford, Conn.) drew a walk and got an RBI when Fillmore scored
- Hailey Desrosiers (Cypress, Calif.) homered in the second to put the Pioneers up 4-0
- Mount St. Mary's were able to get on the board in the fifth as they put up a five spot to take the lead on an RBI single and two homeruns
- The Pioneers answered quickly to regain the lead in the sixth as Lauren Delgadillo hit a solo homerun, and Stephanie Appelberg (Monroe, Conn.) hit a two-run double to go ahead 7-5
- Mount St. Mary's walked off with a three-run homerun by Rachel Heinze
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Delgadillo scored three runs to go along with her two hits and a RBI
- Appelberg had three hits and two RBI
- Desrosiers scored two runs, two hits, and two RBI
FOR THE FOES:
- Rachel Heinze had a walk-off three-run homerun
- Lindsay Heinze had a three-run homerun
- Sam Lichtner got the win striking out seven Pioneer batters
GAME 2: SACRED HEART vs. MOUNT ST. MARY'S
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Victoria D'Addario (Lincoln Park, N.J.) put the Pioneers on top early as she hit an RBI single to right field to score Delgadillo
- Carina Zupa (Glen Cove, N.Y.) walked with the bases loaded to pick up an RBI when Fillmore scored
- Mount St. Mary's evened the score at two in the bottom half of the first when Lindsay Heinze singled home Marisa Mayes before Holly Buckel scored Rachel Heinze on a fielder's choice
- Mount St. Mary's then took the lead in a big way in the bottom of the third when Lindsay Heinze hit a grand slam
- Mount St. Mary's extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth when Rachel Gavigan hit a solo home run
- Fallon Bevino (Milford, Conn.) doubled home Addison Landry (North Falmouth, MA) in the top of the sixth
- The Pioneers tried to rally in the seventh when Lauren Delgadillo walked with the bases loaded to score Kristen McCann (Phoenix, Ariz.) and then stranded the bases loaded to end the game
HIGHLIGHTS:
- McCann led the Pioneers at the plate with two hits
- Zupa and Delgadillo were able to draw two walks a piece
- Delgadillo, D'Addario, Zupa, and Bevino all had RBI's for Sacred Heart
- Orosco and Adrianna Mallory (Pine Bush, N.Y.) combined to strikeout nine Mount St. Mary's batters
- Sacred Heart was able to draw seven walks against Mount St. Mary pitching
FOR THE FOES:
- Lindsay Heinze led the way for Mount St. Mary's with two hits including a grand slam and five RBI
- Pitchers Marian Ruf and Katie Olson combined for the win
