Orosco Strikes out 12 in SHU loss

Box Score

FORT MYERS, FL (February 28, 2016)—One swing of the bat early on made all the difference in the Battle at the Beach finale as the Sacred Heart softball team lost to Florida Gulf Coast 1-0 Sunday morning. Emily Orosco (Camarillo, Calif.) made her debut in the circle and pitched a gem striking out 12 batters. The rookie allowed just one run and three hits throughout six innings of work, but SHU couldn't get the offense going and fell to 1-4 on the young season.

The Pioneers make their annual trip to Florida for the 2016 Rebel Games next week for six games in Kissimmee with a day trip to DeLand for a doubleheader against Stetson thrown in on March 8.

Noteworthy:

  • Orosco struck out 12 batters in her collegiate debut, and allowed just one run, a first-inning solo homerun, and three hits over six innings of work
  • Linsey DeDomenico (Northford, Conn.) continued to show off at the plate, going 2-for-3 accounting for two of Sacred Heart's three hits in the game. Fallon Bevino (Milford, Conn.) had the other

How it Happened:

  • FGCU's starter Ashley Dobson got the Pioneers out in order in the top of the first. In the bottom of the inning, Orosco struck out the first two collegiate batters she faced before giving up a homerun to first baseman Racquel Fournet for the game's only run
  • From there, the rookie only allowed Eagle runners to go as far as second base, and only on two occasions
  • The Pioneers got a runner on just four times in the game, and were unable to push her to second
