Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Sacred Heart men's hockey team wrapped up the regular season Saturday night with a 3-0 loss to the Holy Cross Crusaders at the Hart Center.
After a scoreless first period, Holy Cross (18-11-5, 16-7-5 AHC) finally broke out on top with 13:09 remaining in the second when Johnny Coughlin took a cross-ice pass from Castan Sommer and was able to beat Brett Magnus from the right circle for a 1-0 lead.
Sacred Heart (12-18-4, 10-15-3 AHC) fell behind 2-0 when the Crusaders' Michael Laffin took a wraparound pass from Johnny Coughlin and found the back of the net with 1:31 remaining in the second period. Berrafato had 19 saves through the first two periods to keep the Pioneers off the scoreboard.
Holy Cross added to its lead with 16:12 left in the third period when a Tommy Muratore wrist shot from the right circle was stopped by Magnus but not controlled, and Ryan Ferrill was able to corral the rebound and sneak it into the goal to make it 3-0.
Sacred Heart outshot Holy Cross 28-24 for the game. Holy Cross was 0-for-1 on the power play in the game while Sacred Heart went 0-for-3. Sacred Heart was shutout for only the second time this season.
The Pioneers finish the regular season in ninth place with 23 points and a 10-15-3 Atlantic Hockey record. Sacred Heart will travel to eighth-place Bentley for a first-round best-of-three series in the Atlantic Hockey tournament, which will begin on Friday, March 4 at 7:05 p.m.
