Box Score Shelton, CT – Junior forward Brittany Smith scored in the second period on Friday night as the Sacred Heart women's hockey team lost to Holy Cross 3-1.
Goaltender Devan Kane made 17 saves and Sacred Heart outshot the crusaders 24-17
Holy Cross opened the scoring just 9 seconds into the game on a goal by Sam Girard. The Pioneers responded in the second period, with Hanlon finding Smith to tie the score 1-1. The Crusaders took a 2-1 lead in the third period at 5:25 with Julie Matthias assisting Lauren Abbenante.
Holy Cross scored the third and final goal at 13:41 with a goal from Kara Violette, unassisted.
The two teams wrap up their weekend series Saturday at 6 p.m.
