Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior forward Taylor Moreland scored two goals Friday night as the Sacred Heart women's hockey team lost to the Brown Bears 6-3 at Meehan Auditorium.
Brittany Smith also had two points on the night on a pair of assists. Meghan Kebalka had the other Pioneers goal. Goaltender Devan Kane made 31 saves. Sacred Heart was outshot 37-21 by Brown and was 1-for-5 on the power play.
Brown (1-0-0) opened the scoring just 2:19 seconds into the game on a goal by Katie Lynch. The Pioneers responded just 12 seconds later, with Smith finding Moreland for her first goal of the game to tie the score 1-1. The Bears took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission on Alley Rempe's power play goal at 12:46.
SHU (0-1-0) tied the game 2-2 at 6:58 of the second period. Moreland scored her second of the game, with assists from Smith and Amie Varano. The Bears came back with two goals in the span of three minutes as Bridget Carey's goal at 11:02 gave Brown a 4-2 lead. Kebalka cut into the deficit at 13:21. Her goal, assisted by Carly Radovich and Katie Stueve, made the score 4-3 heading into the third period. Brown outshot the Pioneers 17-6 in the final period, scoring twice to make the final score 6-3.
The two teams wrap up their weekend series Saturday at 3 p.m.
