Box Score WATERTOWN, Mass. – Zach Luczyk scored with 3:47 remaining in regulation to secure a point for the Sacred Heart men's hockey team in a 3-3 tie against the Bentley Falcons at John A. Ryan Arena.
Sacred Heart (10-14-4, 8-11-3 AHC) took a 1-0 lead 3:52 into Saturday's game. Justin Danforth scored his 16th goal of the season on the power play, ripping a one-timer from Evan Jasper for the game's opening goal. Brett Magnus stopped all 10 Bentley (10-13-4, 8-9-4 AHC) shots in the first period as the Pioneers took a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
The Pioneers extended their lead 2:05 into the second period, when Erlich Doerksen let loose a laser that popped Bentley goalie Gabe Antoni's water bottle, putting Sacred Heart ahead 2-0. Danforth and Liam Clare had the assists. Bentley got on the board with 3:40 remaining in the second period with a power play goal from Andrew Gladiuk.
The Falcons tied the game 1:01 into the third period, when Cody DePourcq finished off a two-on-one rush with Jake Ahlgren to make the score 2-2. Kyle Schmidt put Bentley in front, 3-2, with 4:32 to play. With the Falcons on the power play, Schmidt knocked in the rebound of a Matt Blomquist shot from the point. Forty-five seconds later, Zach Luczyk tied the game 3-3 with a snipe from the slot with assists from Alec Butcher and Zach Sabatini. Sacred Heart outshot Bentley 4-2 in overtime, but couldn't get the game winner.
Bentley outshot Sacred Heart 36-35. The Falcons were 2-for-8 on the power play, while the Pioneers were 1-for-4. Magnus made 33 saves for Sacred Heart, while Antoni had 32 for Bentley.
The Pioneers return to Milford Ice Pavilion next weekend to take on Robert Morris. The series opens on Friday, Feb. 5 at 7:05 p.m.
