Box Score MILFORD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's hockey team allowed three power play goals as the Pioneers' lost 3-1 to the RIT Tigers Friday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion.
After a scoreless first period, RIT (11-10-2, 11-5-1 AHC) scored first with 15:17 remaining in the second period. Crisp passing on the power play set up Gabe Valuenzuela's goal, beating Brett Magnus on his low left side. Sacred Heart (9-12-3, 8-9-2 AHC) answered back with 10:27 left when a two-on-one breakaway led to Zach Luczyk's equalizing goal. Luczyk beat Tigers' goalie Christian Short glove side with an assist from Alec Butcher. RIT took advantage of another power play when Caleb Cameron was able to sneak the puck past Magnus after an initial pad save with 6:55 left in the second period, making the score 2-1.
With 16:20 remaining in the game, RIT scored their third power play goal when Liam Kerins blasted a shot by Magnus from the left circle with 16:20 for a 3-1 lead.
For the game, Sacred Heart was 0-for-3 on the power play and RIT was 3-for-4. RIT outshot Sacred Heart 28-24. Short made 23 saves for the Tigers as Magnus had 25 for the Pioneers.
Sacred Heart and RIT finish the weekend series tomorrow night, Saturday January 23. Faceoff is 7:05 p.m. at the Milford Ice Pavilion.
