ERIE, Pa. – The Sacred Heart men's hockey team saw its four-game unbeaten streak snapped Friday night, falling 2-1 to the Mercyhurst Lakers at Mercyhurst Ice Center.

After a scoreless first period, it looked as if Sacred Heart (8-11-3, 7-8-2 AHC) were going to take the lead as Evan Jasper scored with 4:28 to play in the second period. However, an official review took the goal off the board. Mercyhurst (11-10-0, 9-6-0 AHC) took a 1-0 lead with 1:22 remaining in the period when Josh Lammon tipped a shot from Anthony Mastrodicasa past Brett Magnus.

The Lakers took a 2-0 lead with 5:49 to play in the third as Wes Baker took a cross-ice feed from Jonathan Charbonneau and scored. The Pioneers cut the deficit to one 1:21 later. Freshman Jackson Barliant hammered a one-timer from Jeff Carroll past Mercyhurst goalie Adam Carlson for his first career goal, making the score 2-1. Sacred Heart had four shots in the final 90 seconds to tie the game but couldn't force overtime.

Sacred Heart outshot Mercyhurst 27-19, including an 11-2 margin in the third period. Adam Carlson made 26 saves for the Lakers as Magnus had 17. Both teams were 0-for-6 on the power play. The Pioneers had 11 shots on the power play.

The two teams conclude their weekend series Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
