KINGSTON, R.I. – The Sacred Heart women's tennis team dropped their second consecutive 5-2 decision on Monday afternoon, falling at Rhode Island in non conference action. It is SHU's third straight loss, as the Pioneers are now 5-8. URI has now won two in a row to move over .500 at 6-5.
Lindsey Post cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 straight set decision at third singles to earn one of the two Pioneers points. The second was won by Emma Pezzullo, who toughed out a three set victory after a loss in a first set tiebreaker. She came back to win the second 6-4 before grinding out a back and fourth three set tiebreak, 10-8. Pezzullo is now an even 4-4 in dual play. Nicole Rydzewski was on the other side of a three set tiebreak, falling 10-5 in the decisive set. Rydzewski forced the third set by winning the second 6-4 after dropping the first 7-5.
Sacred Heart's closest call in doubles was a tiebreak setback by
Taylor Gurda and
Sabrina Navarro Lopez. The two were ultimately defeated in the final game, 8-7, at second doubles.
The Pioneers return to Northeast Conference action tomorrow, as they travel to LIU Brooklyn for its final conference match of the year at 11:30 am.
