NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women's tennis team did not drop a set as it swept Northeast Conference opponent Wagner on Sunday evening at Yale University. One day after falling 4-3 to the preseason favorites FDU in its conference opener, SHU is now 4-5 overall and 1-1 in NEC play.
Katie DeRienzo, Taylor Gurda, and Sabrina Navarro Lopez all extended multiple match winning streaks. Losing only one game, DeRienzo's streak is now up to nine straight matches. Gurda has won four straight after dropping only five games and Navarrro's win, in which she fell in only two games, was her third straight. Also winning singles matches in straight set fashion were Paige Olson, Lindsey Post, and Emma Pezzullo.
It was much of the same story in doubles as the Pioneers lost a total of two games. DeRienzo and Nicole Rydzewski swept their opponent, while Olson and Post, and Gurda and Navarro, each only dropped one.
SHU will return to non-conference action on Thursday as it travels to Rhode Island for a 2 pm start.
