Box Score MILFORD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's hockey team traded first period goals with the Air Force Falcons and played to a 1-1 tie at the Milford Ice Pavilion Friday night.
Air Force (3-6-2, 2-3-2 AHC) opened the scoring 9:18 into the first period when Johnny Hrabovsky was able to convert off a rebound, sneaking a shot through Brett Magnus' pads. Sacred Heart (5-5-2, 4-2-1 AHC) scored the tying goal in the final minute of the period on Kory Kennedy's rebound goal off a stick save by Falcons' goalie Shane Starrett, with assists from Jacob Brightbill and Zach Luczyk.
Neither team could find the goal the rest of the way as goaltending and defense controlled the action. For the game, Magnus had 25 saves and Starrett had 21. On power play chances, Sacred Heart was 0-for-3 and Air Force was 0-for-5.
Sacred Heart and Air Force meet again Saturday night November 21st. Faceoff is at 7:05 p.m. at the Milford Ice Pavilion.
FIRST PERIOD
- Sacred Heart had an early scoring chance 49 seconds in but Alec Butcher's shot went wide left off a rebound.
- Justin Danforth's slap shot form the left circle was blocked aside by Starett's stick save with 6:21 remaining in the period.
- Sacred Heart was 0-for-2 on the power play in the period.
- Kennedy's goal was his fifth of the season, which equaled his total for all of last season.
- Sacred Heart outshot Air Force 11-6 in the period.
SECOND PERIOD
- Magnus thwarted an Air Force scoring attempt with a nice pad save with 18:45 remaining.
- At 9:08, Magnus made another strong glove save on a shot from Kyle Mackay.
- Danforth's shot from the right side was kicked aside by Starrett with 6:20 remaining.
- Butcher's shot from in close was gloved by Starrett with 3:46 left.
- Sacred Heart had two shorthanded scoring chances in the final minute. Danforth's breakaway shot hit the post and shortly after Josh Phillips 2–on-1 attempt was stopped by Starrett.
- Air Force outshot Sacred Heart 9-4 in the period.
THIRD PERIOD
- Evan Jasper put a shot high left on another shorthanded scoring chance with 11:08 left.
- With 6:50 remaining, Butcher's wraparound shot was stopped by Starrett.
- In the final minute, Luczyk had a shot go over the net on a breakaway chance.
OVERTIME
- With 2:47 remaining, Magnus made back-to-back saves on shots in the crease to preserve the tie.
