Box Score HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Allie Brouhard scored her first career goal in Sacred Heart's 9-1 defeat at Hofstra on Friday afternoon. The freshman redirected Nichole Dobacheskey's shot from a penalty corner with 11:27 remaining in the second half. The loss means Pioneers will begin conference play with a 2-7 record.
Hofstra (9-3) jumped on SHU right away, taking a 3-0 lead just 15:19 into the contest. The Pride added a fourth in the 29th minute before scoring five more in the second half. Claudia Marin Samper led the attack with a hat trick and two assists, while Colby Hussong had two goals and two assists.
SHU's MAAC opener, the first of three straight home games at Johnson Field in New Haven, Conn., comes next Friday at 7 pm against Siena. The Pioneers defeated the Saints 1-0 in 2014.
First Half
Hofstra had the first seven shots of game, including two in the opening minute. Altepeter saved the first before the rebound was blocked. The next three attempts went wide before the final two resulted in goals less than a minute apart, the latter coming with 10:28 on the clock.
Sacred Heart's first two shots came from penalties corners in the 12th and 13th minutes, respectively. Dobachesky had a shot blocked on the initial corner before Rachel Claroni forced Swan's first save of the afternoon on the second.
Second Half
Altepeter denied three shots before Hofstra's fourth of the half found the back of the net in the 43rd minute for a 5-0 advantage. Just 1:01 later, the lead was six.
Hofstra's three other goals came in the 48th, 55th, and 56th minute, respectively.
