Box Score SMITHFIELD, R.I. (October 18, 2015)--Despite a strong offense in the second half, the Sacred Heart field hockey team was blanked by the Bryant Bulldogs 1-0 Sunday in Smithfield, R.I. Rookie Rebecca Hauser led the charge for the Pioneers putting a team-high two shots on goal. She and senior Rachel Claroni recorded a squad-leading three shots each.
SHU is back in action Friday, Oct. 23 at Monmouth at 4:00 p.m.
First Half:
- Bryant got on the board in the game's 15th minute after being granted back-to-back corners. On the second corner, Anna Kennedy took a hard swing that was just a tad wide, but Erin Karcher redirected it to Emily Perryman who was able to sneak it past Mary Altepeter.
- The Pioneers had a chance late in the first half. as Rebecca Hauser and Lauren Lawson got off consecutive shots in the 35th minutes, but Bryant's Marissa Elizardo managed to stop both before the buzzer.
- The Bulldog defense held SHU to just six shots to Bryant's 11 in the opening half. Both teams put three of their shots on goal.
Second Half:
- Sacred Heart's offense came to life in the second half as the Pioneers outshot the Bulldogs 6-3 and earned four corners to Bryant's three, but were unable to score
