Box Score NEW HAVEN, CONN. (October 13, 2015)—Mary Altepeter recorded 11 saves in the Sacred Heart field hockey team's 3-1 loss to Lehigh Tuesday afternoon at Johnson Field. After the Mountain Hawks went up 3-0, Danielle Gallagher found the back of the cage in the game's final minute.
The Pioneers return to Johnson Field Friday to host MAAC foe Quinnipiac at 7:00 p.m.
First Half:
- The Pioneers had control of the ball through most of the first half, but had trouble making the extra push into the circle, only registering two shots, both of which were on goal
- The Mountain Hawks took eight shots in the opening half. Junior Melissa Glatt led the way with five, including a hard shot from the top of the arch that found the back of the cage giving Lehigh a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Second Half:
- The Mountain Hawks maintained possession of the ball for the majority of the second half outshooting SHU 19-7 in the period, and 27-9 overall
- After Lehigh failed to convert a corner to a goal, Teresa Carotenuto was fouled in front of the cage being awarded a penalty shot. Lined up in front of Mary Altepeter, thefreshman shot the ball to the high right corner of the cage past the SHU goalkeeper
- In the game's 57th minute, Lehigh earned one of its 8 corners. Stopping Zoey Pacheco's shot pulled Altepeter out of the goal allowing Carotenuto to get the rebound and score her second goal of the half improving the Mountain Hawks' lead to 3-0
- The Pioneers got on the board in the final minute of the game. Christine Mace took the last of SHU's four corners, passing the ball to Rachel Claroni who's shot was blocked in front of the cage. With three Pioneers converging on the ball, Gallagher took the stroke for the goal
