Men's Hockey Drops Third Straight, Falls 4-1 to RIT

MILFORD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's hockey team lost its third straight game Friday night, as the RIT Tigers scored twice in both the first and second periods to win 4-1 at Milford Ice Pavilion.

RIT (7-10-4, 6-5-4 AHC) got on the scoreboard 6:26 into the hockey game. Brad Reid started a rush into the Sacred Heart zone, getting the puck to Brad McGowan. McGowan then fired a shot on goal that was stopped by Andrew Bodnarchuk (Saskatoon, Sask.), but Matt Garbowsky knocked in the rebound to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Brady Norrish put RIT ahead 2-0 at 15:02 of the first, getting an assist from Caleb Cameron.

Sacred Heart (6-14-3, 5-9-3 AHC) outshot RIT in each period, starting with a 16-11 edge in the first period. RIT extended the lead 13:00 into the second period on a goal by Caleb Cameron. The Pioneers had an opportunity to get within two by going on the power play late in the second, but it was the Tigers that scored shorthanded. Alexander Kuqali went end-to-end to score RIT's fourth goal at 18:12 of the middle period. The Pioneers' goal came 0:29 into the third period. Senior captain Will Rayner (Needham, Mass.) played the puck into the RIT zone, where Ben Lake (Calgary, Alberta) retrieved it behind the Tigers' net. Lake then found Drew George (Regina, Sask.) on the wing who fired a shot past Jordan Ruby's blocker and into the net to make the score 4-1. Sacred Heart outshot RIT 12-9 in the third period, but could get no closer.

The Pioneers outshot the Tigers 40-28 in the game. RIT was 0-for-3 on the power play, while Sacred Heart was 0-for-4 with the man advantage. Ruby made 39 saves in goal for RIT, while Bodnarchuk had 15 saves in two periods before Alex Vazzano (Trumbull, Conn.) entered the game in the third period and made nine saves.

The two teams wrap up their weekend series tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
