FAIRFIELD, CONN. (April 26, 2014)—The Sacred Heart softball team was swept by Northeast Conference foe Saint Francis U on "Senior Day" Saturday. The Pioneers battled hard in the first game, but the Red Flash rallied for four unanswered runs in the seventh to take the game 9-6. Then in the latter game, managed just two hits before getting shutout 2-0.

The Red Flash got three runs quick in the first inning and tacked on another in the top of the third, while SFU starter Alexis Bower held the Pioneers scoreless through two. But the Sacred Heart bats came alive in the bottom of the third converting five infield singles for three runs to tie the game.

Victoria D'Addario (Lincoln Park, N.J.) led off the bottom of the fourth with a stand-up triple to rightfield. With the next two batters reaching, D'Addario was able to score on Andrea Sidor's (North Vancouver, British Columbia) sacrifice fly to right field to give SHU the lead.

SFU took a one-run lead in the top of the fifth, but the Pioneers got it right back with one in the bottom of the inning as Annie Dreher (Saugus, Calif.) made her way across the plate.

Heading into the final inning with a lead, Sacred Heart gave up four unearned runs in the top of the seventh making Adrianna Mallory (Pine Bush, N.Y.) the losing pitcher of record after the sophomore pitched the final two innings and giving up five hits.

Kelyn Fillmore (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Jenn Robillard (Plainville, Mass.) recorded the Pioneers' only two hits in the second game in the second and third inning respectively.

Jamie Carlson (Corona, Calif.) got the loss after giving up just two runs over all seven innings. While only giving up five hits, the rookie starter struck out an impressive seven batters.

Tomorrow, Sacred Heart will play a doubleheader at LIU Brooklyn beginning at 3:30 p.m.
