FAIRFIELD, CONN. (April 13, 2014)—The Sacred Heart softball team got its first Northeast Conference win of the season Sunday afternoon as they split with Robert Morris University. After falling 5-1 in the first game, Kacie Wentworth (Canton, N.Y.) led the Pioneers to a 4-3 victory in game two. Justine Sibthorp (Santa Clarita, Calif.) went 3-for-6 at the dish and scored two runs as SHU moves to 11-17 on the season and 1- in NEC play.

Rookie pitcher Jamie Carlson (Corona, Calif.) got the loss after pitching a complete game in the day's opener. Over seven innings, the gave up three earned runs on seven hits, but struck out five batters.

Wentworth got the team's lone RBI in the first game when she drove in Sibthorp with an infield single in the bottom of the seventh.

Wentworth started the second game off shaky giving up all three of the Colonials' runs in the first inning, but settled down after shutting Robert Morris down for the remaining six innings.  The junior fanned two batters, and senior catcher Annie Dreher (Saugus, Calif.) caught two batters trying to steal.

The Sacred Heart bats came alive in the bottom of the second innings. With one down, Sibthorp singled through the left side before Kelyn Fillmore (Simi Valley, Calif.) doubled and Victoria D'Addario (Lincoln Park, N.J.) tripled to right field driving in two runs. Two batters later, Bowins snuck a single through the right side sending home the tying run.

With Geena Badolato pitching in the fourth, D'Addario reached getting hit by a pitch sparking a two-out rally. McKenna Weigand (Gilbert, Ariz.) came up next hitting a single through the left side that was misplayed allowing D'Addario to score the winning run.

The Pioneers are back in action Wednesday, April 16 when they host Yale University in a doubleheader that will begin at 3:00 p.m.
