Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Sacred Heart men's hockey team allowed a season-high eight goals Saturday night in an 8-4 loss at #20 Robert Morris at 84 Lumber Arena.
Sacred Heart (5-8-2, 4-6-2 AHC) scored first Saturday night on just its second shot on goal of the game. Jordan Minello (Sweaburg, Ont.) scored his second goal in three games at 6:32 of the period, with assists from Jacob Brightbill (Anneville, Pa.) and Zach Luczyk (Charlton, Mass.). Robert Morris outshot the Pioneers 15-5 in the opening period and took the lead on two goals in the span of 1:48. Matt Cope tied the game at 12:29, followed by David Friedmann's tally at 14:17 that gave the Colonials a 2-1 lead at intermission.
Robert Morris (10-1-3, 8-1-3 AHC) scored twice on the power play in the first 8:24 of the second period to extend its advantage to 4-1. Justin Danforth (Oshawa, Ont.) ended the Colonials' 4-0 run with a goal at the 10:02 mark of the second, getting an assist from Luczyk. Robert Morris, however, would go on another four-goal run. Brady Ferguson started it by scoring 39 seconds after the Danforth tally. David Rigatti and Cody Wydo added goals 26 seconds apart late in the second period to give the Colonials a 7-2 lead at the end of the period.
Scott Jacklin ended the run with a goal seven minutes into the third period. Sacred Heart tacked on two goals in a span of 10 seconds late in the third period. Freshman Alec Butcher (Anchorage, Alaska) scored his first career goal with 3:48 to play, with assists from Brian Sheehan (St. Louis, Mo.) and Spencer Graboski (Quesnel, B.C.). Sheehan then scored with an assist from Graboski 10 seconds later to make the final score 8-4.
Eight different players had at least two points in Saturday night's game. Sheehan, Graboski, and Luczyk each had two points for the Pioneers. Friedmann had two goals and two assists for the Colonials as Ferguson and Brendan Denham each had a goal and two assists. Robert Morris' Daniel Leavens had a game-high three assists.
The Pioneers play their final game before the Christmas holiday on Sunday, Dec. 14 at Dartmouth. Puck drop is at 4 p.m.
