Box Score TEANECK, N.J. – The Sacred Heart women's soccer team and the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights each scored within the first 10 minutes Friday night at University Field, but the Knights were able to break through in overtime for a 2-1 win.
Sacred Heart (6-8-2, 1-3-1 NEC) scored on its first shot of the game when Emily Dawidczyk (Oxford, Mass.) pounced on a loose ball in the box off of a corner, firing the ball past FDU (12-4-0, 5-1-0 NEC) goalkeeper Felicia Burr to make the score 1-0. The Knights responded in the 10th minute as Carly Tice sent home a Connie Lewis pass to level the match 1-1. FDU outshot Sacred Heart 7-2 in the opening half, but Talia Schwartz (Roslyn, N.Y.) made three saves to keep the game tied at the interval.
The two teams combined for 23 shots in the second half, but neither team found the back of the net. Schwartz made six saves and Burr made three as FDU outshot the Pioneers 16-7 as overtime loomed. The Knights had three shots on goal in the final six minutes of regulation, one from Tice and two from Rachel Hoekstra, that were all stopped by Schwartz. Tice had a chance to win the game two minutes into overtime, but once again Schwartz was equal to the task. In the 96th minute, the Pioneers had their lone shot of extra time as Jillian Picinich (Bellmore, N.Y.) had a shot off of a corner kick saved by Burr. With 22 seconds remaining in overtime, FDU won the game on Hoekstra's 11th goal of the season with an assist from Tice.
FDU outshot Sacred Heart 26-10 for the game, putting 12 shots on goal to the Pioneers' five. Sacred Heart had eight corner kicks to the Knights' seven. Schwartz made 10 saves for Sacred Heart as Burr had four stops for FDU.
The Pioneers are at Mount St. Mary's Sunday for a 1 p.m. game.
