Men's Hockey Completes Sweep Of Army With 4-1 Win Saturday In Danbury

DANBURY, Conn. - The Sacred Heart men's hockey team completed its first weekend series sweep since 2012 on Saturday night, defeating the Army Black Knights 4-1 at Danbury Ice Arena. 

The Pioneers are on a two-game winning streak for the first time since Feb. 25, 2012 when Sacred Heart completed a sweep of Army. Ben Lake (Calgary, Alb.) scored a goal for the third consecutive game. Justin Danforth (Oshawa, Ont.) had two assists for the second game in a row. Andrew Bodnarchuk (Saskatoon, Alb.) made 31 saves in net for his second straight win.

Sacred Heart (4-8-0, 3-3-0 AHA) dominated the opening period, outshooting Army (1-10-0, 1-7-0 AHA) 17-5. Brian Sheehan (St. Louis, Mo.) put the Pioneers on the scoreboard 9:48 into the game, scoring off a Chad Filteau (Regina, Sask.) pass to make the score 1-0. Jeff Carroll (Kingston, Ont.) also assisted on Sheehan's goal, his third of the season. Just over two minutes later, Jordan Minello (Sweaburg, Ont.) tallied a power play goal from Danforth and Mitch Nylen (Lawrenceville, Ga.) to give Sacred Heart a 2-0 lead.

Army had two power plays in the second period, but were held scoreless. Meanwhile, Sacred Heart took a 3-0 lead with five minutes remaining in the second on Evan Jasper's (Whitby, Ont.) third goal of the season. Danforth assisted on Jasper's goal. Lake made the score 4-0 early in the third period, scoring 24 seconds in with assists from Drew George (Regina, Sask.) and Daniel Lisi (King City, Ont.). The Black Knights outshot Sacred Heart 16-9 in the final period, scoring on the power play late in the period to make the final score 4-1.

Sacred Heart returns to action on Friday, Nov. 29 with a 4:05 game at Milford Ice Pavilion against RIT, the opening game of a weekend series with the Tigers. The game was originally scheduled to be played at 1:00 p.m. at Webster Bank Arena but has since been moved to Milford Ice Pavilion.
