Pioneers Rebound for 4-3 NEC Win at LIU Brooklyn

FLUSHING, NY (April 5, 2012) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team snapped a three-match losing streak and improved to 3-1 in Northeast Conference play beating LIU Brooklyn, 4-3, Thursday at the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. 

The Pioneers posted a pair of three-set wins at #1 and #5 singles to come back from a 3-2 hole to take the match.  The Blackbirds posted wins at #1 and #2 doubles to open the match by winning the doubles point. 

SHU senior Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at #3 singles over Nancy Zonneveld.  Both sophomore Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) and senior Delaney Downing (Englewood, CO) rebounded from dropping the first set in their matches to win in three giving the Pioneers the match.

Kaldan lost the first set, 6-3, to Sanne Louwers but stormed back to win 6-1 and 6-1 in the #1 singles slot.  Downing fell 6-3 to Lisa Maas at #5 but came back to win 7-5, 6-3 to seal the comeback win.

The Pioneers are right back in action on Friday afternoon, playing host to the University of Hartford at 2 pm.
