Pioneers Lose to URI, 4-2

FAIRFIELD, CT (April 12, 2012) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team lost to visitor Rhode Island Thursday afternoon, 4-2.  The two teams played just the singles matches with doubles being wiped out due to rain showers.

The Pioneers got singles wins at the top-two sports by sophomore Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) and freshman Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY).  Kaldan earned a three-set win over Pam Emery at #1, rebounding from a 7-5 loss in the first set.  Kaldan went on to win 6-3 and 10-8 in the tie breaker.

Rydzewski also posted a three-set win, beating Kirsten Leikem 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 at #2 singles.

The Pioneers will play their final tune-up for the Northeast Conference Tournament traveling to Fairleigh Dickinson Friday afternoon.
