Box Score (Bridgeport, CT) – Brett Gensler scored a dramatic game-tying just before time expired in regulation for the Bentley Falcons, as the Sacred Heart Men's Ice Hockey team settled for a 3-3 tie Saturday afternoon at Webster Bank Arena.
Gensler found a loose puck on a mad scrum in front of the net after a drive from the point by Matt Mahar and a desperation shot attempt by Alex Kubiak for the third unanswered goal by Bentley to earn the Falcons a point in the Atlantic Hockey Association standings.
The Falcons cut an early 3-0 deficit to one with two second period goals within 13 seconds of each other. Jamie Nudy put Bentley on the board first at 16:15 of the second, sneaking in a shot assisted by Ryan Kayfes and Bret Hartung seconds after he missed he net on a breakaway. Following the ensuing faceoff , Justing Brenton chipped a goalmouth pass under the crossbar at 16:28, with Aaron Stonacek and Trent Bonnett picking up the helpers.
Sacred Heart played a great first period, reeling off the game's first three goals. Chad Filteau (Regina, SK) scored on a two-on-one break, holding onto the puck for a far-side wrist shot at 9:37 with Neil Fachini (East Hartford, CT) and Drew George (Regina, SK) getting the assists. Anthony Yelovich (Little Falls, NJ) also converted a two-on-one, faming a pass that rolled off his stick into the net for a 2-0 SHU lead at 13:44. Brian Sheehan (St. Louis, MO) registered his team-best 19th point on a rebound goal off a one-timer by Reid MacLeod (Teuoln, MB) on a goal-mouth feed by Eric Delong (Oakville, MB).
Sacred Heart is back in action next Friday night, February 10 at 7:05 pm when they travel to UConn to take on the Huskies in the front end of a home-and-home series. The Pioneers host the Huskies at Webster Bank Arena on February 11 Saturday at 4:00 pm.
