SHU Women Beaten by Army and Binghamton

WEST POINT, NY (February 4, 2012) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team played a pair of dual matches at Army this weekend, falling to the Black Knights, 4-3, and the Binghamton Bearcats, 6-1.

Against the Black Knights, the Pioneers were swept in doubles play but split the six singles matches.  Senior Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) battled her way to a three-set win at #2 over Carly Riney.  Donnelly won the first set 6-4 but dropped the second set 6-4.  She closed out the win with a 6-2 win in the third.

Freshman Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) won at #3 singles after losing the first set to Larraine Saavedra, 6-3.  Rydzewski answered with 6-3 and 6-1 sets to take the match.  SHU senior Kristin Legenza (Berlin, CT) notched SHU's other singles win, beating Alyssa Hanson at #6, 6-4, 6-4.

In Saturday's loss to Binghamton, Rydzewski picked-up the Pioneer's lone point, winning at #2 singles.  She beat Taylor Hollander, 4-6, 7-5, 11-9.

The Pioneers are back on the court when they host Albany next Saturday, February 11th at Yale University.
