Box Score (Northford, CT) – The Sacred Heart Men's Hockey team lost 3-0 Friday night to the Mercyhurst Lakers at the Northford Ice Pavilion.
Steven Legatto (Kelowna, BC) got the start in net and made 40 saves, a number of which were spectacular. However, Mercyhurst solved him at 10:22 of the first on a drive from the right point by Grant Gettinger, who took a pass from Trent Frey after a passion win by Matthew Zay and beat LEgatto with a blast from the blue line.
Nick Jones made it 2-0 Lakers with a power play goal at 14:17 of the second, one-timing a pass from Ryan Misiak through a screen. That was the only puck that got past LEgatto in a second period in which Mercyhurst outshout SHU 21-9.
Misiak put the game away with an empty net goal with 14 seconds left, collecting the rebound after a Max Strang save and skating the puck past center for the open look. Strang picked up the assist to go along with a 28 save shutout victory.
SHU hosts Mercyhurst Saturday, November 3 at 4:00 pm at Webster Bank Arena. Both the SHU-Mercyhurst game, as well as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers-Hershey Bears AHL game that follows at 7:00 pm, are free admission.
