Box Score (Watertown, MA) – The Sacred Heart Men's Hockey team surrendered four second period goals, as the Bentley Falcons downed the Pioneers 7-1 in the opener of Atlantic Hockey play.
All of Bentley's goals came on special teams. Alex Grieve opened the scoring at 6:52 with the Falcons on the two-man advantage. The Pioneers went into the first intermission down 1-0, having been outshot 12-5 through 20 minutes.
After a Falcon power play goal at 6:25 by Brett Gensler, the Pioneers answered about two minutes later on their own two-man advantage for their only goal of the night. Drew George (Regina, SK) took a cross ice pass near the far post from the right point by Jacob Brightbill (Anneville, PA). Brian Shehan (St. Louis, MO) earned the secondary assist at 8:35.
However, Brett Hartung got that goal back on the same SHU power play with the first of three shorthanded goals for the Falcons. Steve Weinstein and Grieve ripped off back-to-back goals on a two-man advantage at 15:35 and 16:44 respectively. In the third period, Andrew Gladiuk scored on a breakaway at 6:32 for a shorthanded goal, and Jared Rickord added another shorthanded goal at 17:10 on another breakaway.
The Pioneers look to rebound with a home-and-home series with Army, beginning Friday night on the road in West Point, NY at 7:05 pm.
