Men's Hockey Falls 6-1 at Quinnipiac

Box Score

(Hamden, CT) – The Sacred Heart Men's Hockey team took to the ice against the Quinnipiac Bobcats for the first time since 2005, with QU prevailing 6-1 Friday night at the TD Bank Sports Center.

Scoreless through the majority of the first period, the Bobcats struck for two late first period goals.  Loren Barron knocked in a rebound under the crossbar at 18:28 on the power play, with Ben Arnt and Yuri Bouharevich assisting.  They then took advantage of a Pioneer turnover with three seconds left in the period, when Jeremy Langlois redirected a slapshot by Zach Davies at 19:57.

SHU responded in the second on a goal by Will Rayner (Newton, MA), who took a wrist shot after Anthony Yelovich (Little Falls, NJ) found him in the slot thanks to his great effort working the puck free on the far boards.  Quinnipiac, however, came back with another goal by Langlois at 9:29, cruising through the slot to take a pass by Matthew Peca after another SHU defensive-end turnover.

Sacred Heart had a two-man advantage late in the second period, but could not convert.  The Bobcats put the game away in the third with the help of a couple special teams goals.  Scott Zurevinski blasted a slapshot from the left circle, set up by Zach Tolkinen who took a rink-long pass from QU goalie Dan Clarke, for a power play goal at 8:23.  Bouharevich sniped a wrist shot inside the far post to make it 5-1, with assists going to Spencer Heichman and Barron, at 12:59.  Barron then took advantage of another SHU turnover, finding Cory Hibbeler for a shorthanded goal at 16:56.

Clarke made 22 saves in net for QU for the victory, with Steven Legatto (Kelowna, BC) stopped 34 of Quinnipiac's 40 shots.

SHU closes out the first semester on Sunday, December 11, when they travel to Dartmouth for a 4:00 pm faceoff.
