Box Score (Bridgeport, CT) – Eric Delong (Oakville, MB) scored twice for the Pioneers, but the Sacred Heart Men's Hockey team lost 10-4 to Robert Morris at Webster Bank Arena Saturday afternoon.
Delong opened the scoring at 2:37 on a rebound goal, with assists going to Brian Sheehan (St. Louis, MO) and Ben lake (Calgary, AB). However, the Colonials responded 1:13 later on a goal by Trevor Lewis. Tommy Castonguay (Rimouski, QB) scored his first goal of the year to regain the lead, knocking in a rebound off a shot from Kyle Verbeek (Birmingham, MI) off a centering feed from Ben Ketchum (Greenwich, CT) at 8:37.
The lead was short-lived, however, as RMU reeled off the next five goals. Scott Jacklin tied it at 12:48 of the first, and Adam Brace put RMU on top at 14:57. In the second, Cody Wydo added to the lead at 1:43, as did Jimmy Geerin at 12:16. Jacklin added another off the opening faceoff of the third, scoring a second of the game 10 seconds into the period.
The Pioneers attempted a comeback, cutting the Colonials' lead to 6-4 in the third with goals by Lake at 1:23, assisted by Sheehan and Jordan Ciccarello (New Hartford, CT), and Delong at 2:16, assisted by Tye Lewis (Vancouver, WA) and Chris Bailer (Red Deer, AB). However, RMU stormed back with three more goals, scored by Tyson Wilson at 7:37, Tom Brooks at 9:59, and Brandon Blandina with 37 seconds remaining.
The Colonials outshot the Pioneers 47-45. SHU renews an old rivalry when they are next in action, taking on Quinnipiac in Hamden, CT next Friday at 7:00 p.m.
