Men's Hockey Falls Short at Air Force 2-1

Box Score

(Colorado Springs, CO) - The Sacred Heart Men's Hockey team took the ice Friday night in search of their first win of the season, but fell just short.  Just 1:47 into the third period, John Kruse scored his second goal of the season on an assist from Ryan Timar, giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead, and ultimately the victory.

The Pioneers and the Flacons skated the majority of the first period without a score, until Chad Demers gave Air Force a 1-0 lead with 4:23 remaining in the period off assists by Cole Gunner and Scott Mathis.

The Pioneers tied the game in the second period with 3:31 to play when freshman Brian Sheehan (St. Louis, MO) lit the lamp for the fifth time this season.

Pioneer Goaltender Steven Legatto (Kelowna, BC) kept the Pioneers in the game, stopping 36 of the Falcons's 38 shot attempts.  The Pioneers were only able to counter with 13 shots, but Falcon goaltender Stephen Caple remained sharp in making 12 saves.

The Pioneers will be right back in action tomorrow night at 9:35 EST, when they close out their two-game series with the Air Force Academy.
