Men's Hockey Falls to Bentley 7-3

Box Score

(Milford, CT) – Brian Sheehan (St. Louis, MO) scored his first two collegiate goals, but the Bentley Falcons defeated the Sacred Heart University Men's Hockey team 7-3 Tuesday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion.

Ben Ketchum (Greenwich, CT) opened the scoring at 11:23 of the first on a transition wrist-shot to the far post, assisted by Matt Gingera (Winnipeg, MB) and Eric Delong (Oakville, MB) following a neutral-ice turnover. However, Bentley stormed back 20 seconds later and scored on a goal by Brett Gensler, who cut to the middle from the near boards for a wrist shot on a rush started by Alex Greive and Tyler Quartuccio. The Falcons later took advantage of their fourth power play of the period, when Brett Hartung converted on a goal set up by Steve Weinstein and Jared Rickord.

Weinstein set up three more goals in the second, finishing with four assists on the night. He found Dan Koudys for a goal at 11:03 to give Bentley a 4-1 lead. SHU responded late in the period with a power play goal by Sheehan, who netted the first goal of his career with a far-side wrist shot on a rush begun by Torin Snydeman (Groton, MA) and Jordan Ciccarello (New Hartford, CT) at 18:06. The Falcons, however, responded 23 seconds later with a momentum-squelching goal by Brett Switzer, who's shot from the high slot snuck through Andrew Bodnarchuk (Saskatoon, SK).

Chris Paliafito (Shelbyville, KY) relieved Bodnarchuk in net for his first career minutes, and would go on to make eight saves. However, the Falcons solved him at 6:02 on another goal by Koudys, with Zach Marginsky picking up the assist. Sheehan scored on a goal-mouth redirect off another assist out of the far corner by Gingera, as well as a helper by Alex Stuart (Sauk Rapids, MN). Grieve added another for Bentley, putting home a second rebound after Paliafito made initial saves on Switzer and Gensler.

Sacred Heart looks to rebound at American International College on Friday, October 29 at 7:05 p.m.
