Stiles (Miller Place, NY) netted the only goal of the game and
goalkeeper Meghan
Reichelt (Selden, NY) made four saves as the Pioneers downed
the Knights in Teaneck, NJ Tuesday night. The shutout was
Reichelt's third of the season while the game winner from Stiles
was the junior's third tally of 2010.
Sacred Heart (5-3-2, 1-0-0 NEC) outshot the Knights 10-7
overall, including a 6-3 margin in the first half. Stiles
found the back of the net in the 42nd with the goal that would
prove to be the game winner. After claiming a 50-50 ball at
midfield Stiles rushed in and beat the FDU goalkeeper one-on-one
with a shot from 30 yards out. The Pioneers dominated the
action in the first half earning eight corner kicks to three for
the home team.
Fairleigh Dickinson (0-9-0, 0-1-0 NEC) applied some pressure in
the final five minutes of the game but were unable to break through
with an equalizer. Rashida Sherman led the attack for the
Knights putting two shots on net. The victory was the first
road win for the Pioneers in 2010 and is the second straight
triumph over FDU after the Knights claimed a 1-0 win in double
overtime in 2008.
The Pioneers continue NEC action this weekend against Bryant
Sunday afternoon at Campus Field, where Sacred Heart holds a
4-1-1 record this season. Kick-off between SHU and the
Bulldogs is set for 3:00 pm.
