Milford, Conn. – The University of Connecticut came into the Milford Ice Pavilion and stormed out with a 9-3 victory over the Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team, Friday night.  The Pioneers, who were outscored 6-1 in the second period, fell to 2-11-1 overall and 2-7-4 in Atlantic Hockey, while the Huskies improved to 5-7-3 and 5-4-1.

Junior defenseman Ryan Miniaci (Monroe, Conn.) tied the game at two with his first goal of the year, seven minutes into the second period.  After that it was all UConn as the Huskies would score six unanswered goals to close out the second period.  Senior Andrew Olson and freshman Jordan Sims each scored twice for the Huskies over that stretch.

The Pioneers scored first when senior captain Patrick Knowlton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored his team-leading fifth goal of the year at the 7:42 mark of the first period.  In the third, sophomore Kyle Verbeek (Bloomfield, Minn.) scored for the second straight game.

Steven Legatto (Kelowna, B.C.) started in net for Sacred Heart and provided 29 saves, while giving up six goals, in 52 minutes played.  In relief, junior netminder Olivier St. Onge (Wickham, Que.) stopped four shots and gave up three goals in nearly eight minutes played.  For Connecticut, sophomore Garrett Bartus made 33 saves to earn the victory.

UConn held a 42-36 advantage in shots on goal for the night.  Sacred Heart scored once on six power plays, while the Huskies posted three power play goals on five trips with the man advantage.

The Pioneers remain at home for their final game of the semester as they take on Clarkson Sunday afternoon at 4:05 pm.
