Pioneers' Road Woes Continue Following Loss at Bentley

Box Score

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Sophomore forward Reid MacLeod (Teulon, Man.) scored his first goal of the year, but Dan Koudys and Erik Peterson both scored twice and added an assist for the Bentley Falcons in their 6-2 win over the Sacred Heart Pioneer men's hockey team Wednesday night.

The Pioneers and Falcons played to a scoreless draw through one period, with Sacred Heart outshooting Bentley 12-7 going into the first intermission. But the Falcons came out strong in the second, getting goals from Peterson, Jared Rickord, and Koudys while outshooting SHU 18-9.  Peterson led off the scoring 2:20 into the period, Rickord added his with a wrist shot at the 6:15 mark, and Koudys tipped a shot from the point for a power play goal at 17:36.

Senior forward David Berube (Quebec City, Que.) one-timed a shot by sophomore Ben Ketchum (Greenwich, Conn.) pass to the right of the slot for his  second goal of the year, with the secondary assist going to junior forward Matt Gingera (Winnipeg, Minn.) at 6:45 of the third.  However, Bentley took just 14 seconds to regain a three-goal lead when Koudys banged in his second of the night on a rebound off Peterson's shot in transition.  Brett Hartung increased that lead to 5-1 after converting on a Pioneer defensive-zone turnover off a pass from Justin Breton.

With the Pioneers on a five-minute power play and the goalie pulled for an extra attacker, MacLeod slammed a goal-mouth pass from Berube in to cut the Pioneers' deficit to 5-2 with 3:15 to play.  However, Peterson scored an empty-netter 55 seconds later to seal the 6-2 win.

Sophomore Steven Legatto (Kelowna, B.C.) started in net and provided 26 saves, while allowing five goals.  In relief, junior Olivier St. Onge (Wickham, Que.) stopped six shots in a little more than 10 minutes of action.  For the Falcons, senior Joe Calvi posted 27 saves to earn the win.

The Pioneers are next in action when they host American International in the first of their five home games at the Arena at Harbor Yard Saturday, November 6 at 3:30 p.m.
