The Sacred Heart women's tennis team opened up the Northeast
Conference portion of their schedule beating the Monmouth Hawks on
the road, 6-1 on Tuesday. The Pioneers swept the doubles
matches and won five of the six singles matches to earn the
victory.
Junior Kate Donnelly
(Centerville, MA) opened up singles play with a win in the #1 spot,
beating Brooke Verdiglione 6-0, 6-3. Donnelly and fellow
senior Elizabeth Harrington (Westerly, RI) teamed up to win at #1
doubles. The duo beat Verdiglione and Shelby Goldman,
8-1. Harrington beat Dana Ferrari in singles as well, winning
6-2, 6-0 at #2.
Freshman Gabi
Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Katie
Tierney at #3
singles and teamed with junior Kristin Legenza (Berlin, CT) for
a win at #3 doubles, beating Ferrari and Jess Sliniger, 8-3.
Junior Kristine Chao (Needham, MA) beat Goldman, 6-1, 6-0, at #4
singles and junior Delaney Downing
(Englewood, CO) earned the Pioneers fifth win in singles play,
winning 6-1, 6-0 over Slinger at #5. Chao and Downig won 8-0
at #2 doubles over Tierney and Reciel Arribe.
The Pioneers wrap up the fall portion of their schedule this
weekend at the ITA Regional Championship at Dartmouth College.
