Bridgeport, CT-Gina Arnone (Bridgewater, NJ) scored twice on the power play and added an assist as the Pioneers came from behind to defeat Hamline University 4-2 Sunday afternoon. Both teams recorded double digit penalties in a physical finale to the weekend series. The Pioneers notched two goals in the opening three minutes of the third period, including the game winner from Jaclyn Rideout (Wilmington, MA).

Sacred Heart (4-5-0) dominated the opening ten minutes of the contest but could not find the back of the net. Arnone and Whitney Dziama (Walpole, MA) both hit the post on scoring opportunities in the opening stages of the game. Hamline converted on two power play chances in the first period after being held scoreless in eleven attempts Saturday afternoon. Melanie Leveille notched both markers for the Pipers.

Hamline (4-4-0) surrendered the only goal of the second period with four seconds remaining in Alli Miller's holding penalty. Brittany Hartman (Edina, MN) ripped a slap shot from the blue line that was eventually banged home by Arnone. Sacred Heart continued to control the action but could not pull the game even in the second frame. The physicality of the second period continued the trend of the weekend series as Hamline earned seven penalties to the Pioneers five.

The Pioneers finally capitalized on their scoring chances early in the third period. Arnone used a pass from Lauren Fontaine (Windsor, ON) to tie the game at two. Just 45 seconds later Rideout lit the lamp with the game winner from a Kate Dunlop (Flesherton, ON) feed. Fontaine sealed the win with her team leading fifth goal of the season.

Sacred Heart extended their winning streak to three games for the first time this season, outshooting the Pipers 45-26. Sacred Heart committed 22 penalties in the weekend series but held the Pipers to 2 for 19 on the power play. Arnone led the Pioneers throughout the series, tallying two goals and four assists.

SHU will look for its fourth consecutive win as they travel to Worcester, MA to take on Holy Cross Tuesday night. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
