Bridgeport, CT -
Freshman Brittany Hartman (Prior Lake, MN) scored the game-tying goal midway through the second period and freshman Jessica Little (Fishers, IN) made 29 saves in goal to help Sacred Heart salvage a 1-1 tie with Holy Cross in women's ice hockey action Friday night at the Wonderland of Ice.
The Crusaders got on the board first on a goal by Sam Rush with 6:44 left in the first period. Rush and Jocelyn Kratchmer moved in together on rush up ice. Kratchmer carried the puck into the Pioneer zone and dished it through the goal mouth to Rush who deflected it over a sprawled out Little and into the net for her first goal of the year.
Hartman tied the game at the 8:47 mark of the second period. As the Pioneers set up in the offensive zone, Hartman fired a shot on net that was stopped by Holy Cross goaltender Monique Gallant. However, Hartman followed the play and was able to grab the rebound and snap it past Gallant to tie the game.
Both teams had chances to take the lead in the second half of the game but neither could convert. Gallant's performance was equally as impressive as her counterpart Little. The freshman made 32 saves in her first collegiate start.
The Pioneers and Crusaders close out their weekend series Sunday afternoon in Worcester. Face-off at the Hart Center is set for 2:00 pm.
